Founded in 1921 by Fukukichi Uno, Unofuku began as a travel agency named Uno Shoten in Toyooka-cho, Japan, with a vision to bring quality and craftsmanship to the industry. In 1955, as the company evolved, it became a joint-stock entity and shortly after, earned official recognition by Japan’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry as a contributor to exports. By 1966, Unofuku expanded its identity as Unofuku Sangyo Co., moving to a new headquarters in Toyooka, which still serves as its home.
Under the guidance of Fukukichi’s successors, Kenjiro and later Takaya Uno, the company pioneered imports in the 1970s and embraced new technology. The 1985 construction of a modern office and, later, a state-of-the-art automated warehouse with a capacity for 2,300 pallets allowed Unofuku to manage distribution more efficiently. As the company grew, so did its reputation for innovation, exemplified by the “K’S” designer bag receiving Japan’s prestigious Good Design Award in 1996.
